What is the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) designation?
The CFP® is offered through the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.
CFP® certification is recognized as the highest standard in personal financial planning. CFP® certification helps you build credibility and differentiate yourself in the field.

How do I become a CFP®?
- Education: Approved curriculum. There are two parts to the education requirement. You need to complete college or university-level coursework through a program registered with the CFP Board (which can be challenged if you hold certain degrees or designations), and verify that you hold a bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Pass the CFP® exam. The exam is offered at Prometric testing centers. The exam has 170 multiple-choice questions and is completed in two three-hour sessions.
- Complete 6,000 hours of professional experience or 4,000 hours of Apprenticeship experience.
- Sign and agree to the CFP® Code of Ethics.
